Champions League, New Test For Toronto FC
For Toronto FC, the goal is simple. The Reds must beat Puerto Rico Islanders over two legs to advance to the Group Stage of the CONCACAF Champions League. The home leg takes place at BMO Field on Wednesday night (8 p.m. live on GOLTV) with the return game in Puerto Rico on August 4th.
Toronto coaches and players are all aware that progress to the Group Stage would help put the third year club on the map across the CONCACAF region and also provide a new test on the pitch.
“All professional footballers want to play at the highest level possible and if we can get through to the Group Stage it can only be good for the club,” said Head Coach Chris Cummins. “We would then start playing against teams that we haven’t faced before, against different formations and football cultures. We would come up against different problems than we usually have to deal with in the MLS.”
