CSL Moving Forward On New Standards
TORONTO, ON — At its recently concluded Board of Directors meeting in Montreal, the CSA Professional Soccer Committee reported that work was progressing on the new Pro Soccer Standards.
Of note, the Committee had met with representatives of the Canadian Soccer League as part of the ongoing discussions towards the CSL membership of the CSA.
The Canadian Soccer Association granted the CSL with conditional Membership approval at the Annual General Meeting in 2009 providing that the CSL meets the guidelines in the Pro Soccer Standards.
We are pleased with the progress made. The recommendations from the Pro Committee will form the base on which the Canadian Soccer League may build a solid foundation in its preparations for the 2010 season, and for many years to come as it expands across this great country.
The CSL has been privileged to work with the distinguished members of the committee on such critical developments that will undoubtedly shape the future of soccer in Canada. Our league will transform to better suit the needs of the soccer community by offering a professional approach to the development of athletes, while providing a very high quality of play.
We are committed to the process of building relationships and partnerships both vertically in the pyramid of play, and horizontally across the provinces reaching out to women and Futsal players as well.
Domenic Di Gironimo CSL Chairman
With expansion planned in several cities/towns in Ontario for the 2010 season, the league will have a busy new year which will also include the hiring of a new commissioner, the addition of a marquee sponsor, and meetings with key provinces for the establishment of other regional divisions in Canada for as early as 2011.
