Lansdowne Live group, Fury apply for franchise
The dream of high-level professional soccer in Ottawa received a boost Tuesday when Ottawa Fury CEO John Pugh and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group joined forces to apply for a United Soccer Leagues First Division franchise.
The team would play in a refurbished Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park.
The announcement came on the eve of today’s scheduled Ottawa Council meeting, at which the OSEG proposal for Lansdowne Park re-development — known as Lansdowne Live — is to be reviewed after four months of negotiation between the group and city staff.
