Hance And Hearn Keep Ottawa Fury Undefeated
Fury Take Sole Possession of First Place after Downing Quebec City
Goals From Hance and Hearn Keep Fury Undefeated
The Ottawa Fury (6-0-0) continued their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over the Quebec City Amirals (5-2-0) en route to their 17th straight regular season victory with goals from Jennifer Hance and Amber Hearn.
For the second straight home game the Ottawa Fury came out of the gate sloppy with the Amirals controlling the midfield and limiting the Fury’s possession-based attack. Ottawa proved their dominance on set plays in the 21st minute when Jennifer Hance headed home a Ria Percival corner putting the Fury out in front on her third goal of the season.
Hance’s goal seem to spark the Fury who quickly rebounded from a slow start. Playing with much better control the Fury created more chance but were unable to add a second. The Amirals pushed in the final ten minutes of the half looking to draw even but Fury keeper Jasmine Phillips looked strong collecting her fifth win and third shutout of the season.
Vowing to play better, the Fury came out much stronger in the second half. Courtney Wetzel saw her first minutes with the Fury subbing on inside the first ten minutes of the half. After Ria Percival was fouled along the goal line in the 60th minute Michelle Evans picked out Amber Hearn inside the six yard box who converted for her league-leading 8th of the season giving her side a much welcomed two-goal lead.
Ottawa’s second goal took the wind out of the Amiral attack and the Fury came close to adding a third with great chances from Hearn, Romagnuolo and Urbas.
The victory gives Ottawa sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Division. The Fury now have a week-long break before they travel to Laval on June 26 followed by a rematch against Quebec City the next day.
