Impact Back Home, Miller Back In Montreal

I love driving in Montreal. I love cutting off taxi drivers, sailing through a red on the tail of a police car and not getting stopped. I love Montreal traffic, where right turns on red lights are not allowed, though left turns on reds are not uncommon.

Heading east along Sherbrooke Street, you meet the massive structure of the Olympic Stadium. Just past the Olympic Stadium tower, there they are, the south stands of Stade Saputo … a glimmering blue in the afternoon sun.

Not much to write home about in the world of soccer stadiums. But to this long suffering fan of Canadian soccer, it’s a piece of heaven and a promise of hope.

Stade Saputo is the second soccer specific Canadian stadium to open in two years. A third is in the planning stages in Vancouver.

After scouring the snow buried Stade Saputo, I drove back to the other end of the city, to the Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine. I caught the team that will occupy the new Montreal soccer stadium.

The Impact held their second practice since returning from Italy.
