Jason deVos Joins GolTV’s The Contenders

TORONTO – GolTV and Insight Sports have announced that former Canadian senior men’s national team captain Jason deVos has joined the channel’s original five-part series The Contenders as an in-studio analyst. deVos will make his debut on The Contenders as part of the series third episode on Tuesday, May 27 at 6:00 pm ET. He will also appear on the final two shows set for Thursday, May 29 and Friday, June 6. The broadcast time for each episode of The Contenders is 6:00 pm ET with a same day repeat at 9:00 pm ET.

As in in-studio analyst, deVos will join host Lee Godfrey, GolTV analyst and former Canadian men’s national team player and coach Paul James, and Globe and Mail soccer columnist Peter Mallett as a member of the show’s expert panel.

During the course of his career, deVos played for a variety of clubs in Canada and overseas including Dundee United of the Scottish Premier League, Wigan Athletic in England’s First Division and Ipswich Town in England’s Championship League. As a member of the Canadian national team, deVos served as team captain for six years before retiring from international soccer in 2004.

The third episode of The Contenders will profile Group C while the fourth episode will examine Group D.

For each grouping, GolTV will provide team-by-team analysis focusing on each nation’s round robin matches, how each country qualified to compete in Euro 2008, and an overview of the top players and team personnel for each squad.

The fifth and final episode of The Contenders will recap the analysis from the first four episodes as well as feature predictions on the Euro 2008 champion and speculation on who will win the tournament’s Golden Boot award.

Euro 2008 is schedule to take place from June 7-29 in Austria and Switzerland.
