Rough Riders Outpaced By Fury 3-0
Ottawa, ON — The Fury Men picked up their third successive home PDL victory when they defeated the visiting Long Island Rough Riders by a score of 3-0 tonight at the Algonquin Soccer Complex. Martin Vickerton, Ladi Bushiri and Florian DeCamps notched the goals for the Fury who move to 4-3-0 on the season. The Fury host the Rhode Island Stingrays at Algonquin Sunday afternoon, kick off 3:00 PM.
The Fury started the game on the offensive and almost went ahead in the 2nd minute when Justin Dasah nearly scored from a corner kick when his forceful header was cleared off the line by the Rough Riders defence. A let off for the Rough Riders but one that was short lived as the Fury would take the lead in the 6th minute. Following a hand ball infraction, Martin Vickerton lashed his free kick into the goal with his left foot. The kick seemed to take a minor deflection but the goal was rightly credited to Vickerton. The Fury continued to take the game to the Rough Riders and they created as series of good opportunities; Vickerton went close on two occasions from free kicks and a Florian Decscamps header also narrowly missed the mark.
With the Fury unable to capitalize on their chances, the Rough Riders grew in confidence as the half progressed. The Fury were fired a warning signal when slack play in the middle of the park led to a breakdown and a clear strike on goal for Rough Rider Mike Todd. Fury keeper Michael Drozd was alert and came out quickly to deflect the shot away. The Rough Riders pressed hard and Jamie Ramm almost conceded an own goal as he protected the Fury goal and minutes later the Fury were thankful to see a goal bound shot deflected over the bar from a Riders corner kick. Florian Decamps almost scored from a Vickerton free kick in the 31st minute and four minutes later another dead ball situation led to the second Fury goal. This time it was Andrew Rigby who set up the powerful Ladi Bushiri to score with an unstoppable header into the back of the net. The Fury led by two at the half.
The second half started quietly but Long Island slowly gained the ascendancy and garnered most of thye possession. It would be the Fury who would break the second half deadlock in the 77th minute when Matt Pecheone threw a great dummy to allow Florian Descamps to meet a low cross from Will Beauge and score with a firm shot from close in. A 3-0 lead for the Fury and one that the Rough Riders would not look like overturning. Both sides created chances as the game closed but no goals ensued and the Fury took home three valuable points. The Fury defence of Brando Morse, Bushiri, Jamie Ramm and Martin John were steady throughout the game and never allowed the Rough Riders to develop any sustained attacks.
The Fury record improved to 4-3-0 who have now won all three PDL home games so far this season. The shutout belonged to Fury keeper Michael Drozd.
