Notes
Attendance was only about 60 on this warm afternoon with a threat of rain looming but the game was played in either overcast or the bright sun. The field was wet from rain earlier in the game. A slight rain fell before the game started.

Shutouts were earned by Mike Silva of Portugal FC and Claudio Perri of Wolves. Both had to thank their goalposts during the game. At 54 minutes Wolves Tony Mermigas hit the left post on a 7 yard header. The resulting rebound from 12 yards had a defender block the shot at 8 yards. At 86 minutes PFC sub Selmir Sehic got the ball at 25 yards and ran inside a defender and then rounded the goalie too and rolled a 10 yard shot from the left that hit the right post. Otherwise the goalies had the game in control by leaping for high crosses and smothering low shots. They both had to deal with some bad back passes by their own defenders. A tie was a fair result.

Referee Gianni Fachinni gave out very few cards as it wasn’t a rough game. PFC held a slight edge in the first half. Wolves came out flying in the second half and dominated for the first 20 minutes then the rest of the period evened out.

This was the opening game for the season for Wolves. Portugal FC earned their second tie in their two games this season.

A fan who went to last night’s game between London City and North York Astros was cancelled at the last minute AFTER a 15 minute rain storm. The German Canadian club that owns the field Cove Road decided they didn’t want their field turned into mud by letting the game go on. The Astros owner was livid about the long drive and the headaches of rescheduling. A Rogers TV crew was there to broadcast the game to the London area.
