Notes
Attendance was about 125 on this mild evening with the temperature dropping quickly and the wind picking up in speed.
The Red card was really unnecessary by Marko Petrovic as it appeared if he’d have let Carlo Arghittu run by him without tripping him up, Arghittu would have retained possession just inside the right side line but two retreating defenders had a good chance of cutting off his angle and stop any cross he had in mind.
It was a great surprise that White Eagles scored two goals in the second half while playing a man down and running into a strong gusty wind. Back up goalie Marlon Juman looked a bit shaky and had defender Marc Jankovic take most of the goal kicks. Wolves put in a lot of pressure at the start of the second half and had five cornerkicks in the first eight minutes after the break.
Sasa Viciknez had two brilliant goals with a bending freekick like David Beckham would take to tie the game and a tough angle shot to put the game out of reach. The White Eagles were frustrated with being called offside so often but tried again with the pass to set up his second goal. Viciknez also set up teammates with freekicks and cornerkicks which weren’t converted.
Wolves’ manager Armand Difruscio says his team is shorthanded right now with a player suspended and some away on vacation. This year they will not lose any players going back to school so they are pretty settled on their roster for the rest of the season. Goals are hard for them to come by with them only scoring their 13th in 14 games this season. Their defence has been outstanding but they have let in three goals in two out of their last three games—both losses against Brampton Lions and White Eagles. They’ve had a 0-0 home game tie against Toronto Croatia in between.
White Eagles jump to first place in the CSL for at least the start of this weekend although Toronto Croatia can leap over them with a home game on Sunday night against London City here at Centennial Stadium.
