Notes
Attendance started at about 50 on this warm summer evening but a hard rain started just before the end of the first half and it lasted until the start of the second half when it slowed down and finally stopped. By the end of the game about 150 people were here as they had the next permit. The threat of rain may have had something to do with the small attendance.
Referee Justin Tasev officiated the game and didn’t need to give out many cards to keep the game under control.
Portugal FC forward Andrea Lombardo was not in the lineup as he was serving a suspension for accumulating Yellow cards.
There were other chances for goals. At 51 minutes PFC Luca Forno took a 35 yard cross from the right that had the ball drop into the 6 yard box and PFC Jamaal Smith knocked it first by tapping over a pass to PFC Branko Majstrovic who shot 8 yarder off hand of YRS defence player Rick Titus but play was flagged down for offside anyway. At 87 minutes PFC Julio Garcia took a 25 yard blast that deflected for the goalie to stop on the goal line in center of net.
Tonight’s win for the Shooters combined with the unexpected Serbian White Eagles loss to North York Astros brings the Shooters to within one point of first place. Both the Shooters and the White Eagles see action on Sunday although not playing each other. The White Eagles play Brampton in Brampton at 3:00 pm and York Region Shooters play North York Astros in Vaughan at 6:00 pm.
