Notes
Attendance was about 150 on this cool day with the threat of rain in the air even though it had rained most of the night before. Centennial Stadium had its field covered with field turf so there was no mud. This was considered a home game for the Academy and a big e-mail was sent to the TFC mailing list but it had a minimal effect on attendance with many of the fans being White Eagles fans. A few spits of rain fell at 37 minutes but nothing more until near the end of the game when lightning could be seen in the distance. The fourth official signaled for four minutes of time added but when a big bolt of lightning lit up the south end at 90:25 the referee stopped the game. The players fled to the dressing rooms and the fans fled to their cars but everyone got soaked.

One turning point of the game was at 16 minutes when TFCA Jonathan Lao took a 22 yard freekick from the left after Allando Matheson was knocked down by SWE defender Mirko Medic. Lao’s shot hit the right post and deflected to the left post and the goalie caught the ball on the bounce after not knowing where it was when it hit the first post. A goal there and their Penalty kick goal might have changed the whole game. Sasa Viciknez did score on his attempts that proved the difference. Adrian Tismenar scored after missing the first game last week while attending the funeral of his mother in Serbia.

Both goalies Garrett Cyprus and Dan Pelc had to be aggressive coming to the edge of their box or outside to make clearances of through balls.

White Eagles won both ends of the Quarter Finals and now wait their next round opponents. A ‘tie’ would have been a good enough result today to carry them through but a loss would have resulted in an overtime mini game played right after regulation time and that would have been awkward with the downpour at the end of the regulation time.

A TFCA father confirmed to me that about six or seven players listed for today’s Academy game will play in the CSL Reserve Final in Maple on Sunday at 2:00 pm. This game will be played before the Italia Shooters vs St Catharines Wolves game at 5:00 pm.
