And so the David Beckham era is (probably) over for Major League Soccer.

Only in Hollywood could a script be written so tidily: the league’s biggest star finally winning the cup on home turf in what may very well be his last game in America. Sigh, well played, Becks.

But, even at 36 years old, Beckham isn’t off to a happy retirement of fashion shows, fancy hair salons and hipster tattoo parlours. Rather, for all the sniggering that he’s a pretty boy (including mine just there), Beckham looks likely to tough it out and push himself to keep playing until he’s the only 63-year-old with underwear-model abs.
