Toronto Lady Lynx Next Game 2010!
Lady Lynx Sink Amiral in Season Finale
Tiffany Cameron’s 2 goals lead Toronto to 2-0 rout of Quebec City
Mississauga, ON — The Toronto Lady Lynx capped off their 2009 season with an exclamation point this afternoon, routing the visiting Quebec City Amiral 2-0 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga . Tiffany Cameron returned to the line-up from the National U-20 camp in Boulder, Colorado and scored twice to lead Toronto to the victory, avenging their 3-0 defeat to the Amiral in Quebec back in June. Justine Bernier earned her fourth clean sheet of the season with the win, which raises the Lady Lynx record to 6-4-4 (22 points) to close the season. The Lady Lynx vault into a fourth place tie in the Great Lakes with the Laval Comets, but fail to qualify for the W-League playoffs for the first time in their five-year history. Quebec City finishes their inaugural regular season at 9-4-1 (28 points), and currently sit two points ahead of Buffalo in second place in the division, who have two games in hand on the Amiral.
After a relatively even first half, Toronto dominated the second period to earn the three points. Just more than a minute after entering the match, Cameron opened the scoring when she slammed home a Clare Rustad corner kick. The Quebec City defense could not clear the perfectly placed strike by Rustad, allowing Cameron to control it and knock into the netting for a 1-0 Toronto lead in the 61st minute.
The rookie netted her second of the game and team-leading fifth of the season 25 minutes later to ice the game. Adrienne Ruhe Lischke sent her in alone on a through ball, and she placed a left footer just inside the far post past the diving keeper for the 2-0 Toronto lead. Quebec City could not equalize in the final four minutes of the game and in injury time, and Toronto earned the points, wrapping up the season on a tidy three-game winning streak.
The Toronto Lynx wrap up their men’s PDL schedule tomorrow afternoon against the Michigan Bucks at 5:00 PM back at the Hershey Centre. Tickets will be available at the gate starting at 4:00 PM.
