Toronto Lady Lynx Thumped In Ottawa
Lady Lynx Suffer First Loss
Fall 5-1 to Ottawa Fury
The Toronto Lady Lynx dropped their first match of the 2009 W-League season this afternoon, falling 5-1 at the hands of the Ottawa Fury in Ottawa. Tiffany Cameron scored for the Lady Lynx in the loss, her third of the year. Toronto falls to third place in the Great Lakes division (2-1-2, 5 points), while the Fury remain undefeated at 3-0-0 (9-0-0), and move into a tie with the Buffalo Flash atop the division.
The hosts jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage on the strength of two Michelle Evans goals three minutes apart midway through the opening half. The Lady Lynx regrouped and Cameron’s strike cut the deficit in half just six minutes from the break, giving the visitors much-needed momentum heading into the second half.
Toronto continued their strong play following the intermission, but the young squad was unable to convert their chances into goals and could not equalize. The Fury iced the game with a pair of Amber Hearns strikes in the 67th and 69th minutes, and Nathalie Urbas closed out the scoring in the 79th minute for the final 5-1 scoreline.
The Lady Lynx’ road trip continues tomorrow afternoon with a 1:00 PM kick-off in Quebec City against the expansion Amirals, the second of four consecutive road matches for Toronto. The team will return home on Sunday, June 21 at 4:00 PM versus the expansion Buffalo Flash at Centennial Park Stadium. Tickets for the match may be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31, or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office one hour prior to kickoff.
