Toronto Lynx Unveil 2008 Schedule

TORONTO, ON — Toronto Lady Lynx have taken the wraps off their 2008 W-League schedule. The fourth-year club plays 14 games this season as it strives towards its fourth consecutive playoff berth and first W-League championship.

The 2008 campaign begins Sunday, May 18 with a visit to Ludlow, MA. Northern Division newcomers, Western Mass Pioneers, will clash with the Lady Lynx at 3:00 PM.

Toronto’s home schedule opens three days later. London Gryphons kicks off against the Lady Lynx at 11:00 AM on May 21st. 

This game will be the first at the newly refurbished Varsity Centre on the downtown campus of the University of Toronto. The Lady Lynx and Lynx will entertain 6 times at the sparkling new Varsity Centre in 2008.

Before its demolition and for the first 5 years of play, the Lynx franchise was based at Varsity Stadium. In 2002, the club relocated to Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke.

Local Community LynxFest Games
Two 2008 Lynxfest games will be staged this summer.

Durham’s Pickering Soccer Club will host a visit by Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, July 5. Kickoff is at 4:00 PM. The game will be the highlight of the Pickering Soccer Club’s annual Celebrating Durham Women in Soccer festivities.

On the next Saturday, the Lady Lynx head to Edelweiss Park in Bolton to tackle the Western Mass Pioneers . This July 12 game will cap off a week of festivities and events in the town by the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club. The teams play at 1:00 PM. As the second part of a doubleheader, a Toronto Lynx PDL game will follow at 5:00 PM.

The Lady Lynx will be staging a week-long camp session in Bolton in the week prior to the match as part of the Lynxfest event, which will be part of the Bolton Wanderer’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Centennial Park Stadium Highlight Games
Doubleheader action will kick off at 1:00 PM on June 1st. The Lady Lynx will see a visit by the Vermont Lady Voltage. At 4:00 PM, the Lynx PDL squad will take the field.

The team’s annual Youth Day matinee is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9 at 11:00 AM at against heated rival Laval Comets.

Final Weekend
The Lady Lynx end their 2008 schedule with a pair of games on the final weekend of the season. Hamilton Lady Avalanche will make a trip up the QEW for an encounter on Saturday, July 19 at 4:00 PM at Varsity Stadium to close out the home schedule. Toronto will then take to the road to close out the season with a 7:35 meeting against the Rochester Rhinos at PAETEC Park .
